MindCandy
After posting awhile back about how much fun it woud be to start a managed demoscene I found the MindCandy DVD online and ordered it (this was like the day before it showed up on Slashdot). It arrived today and I have to say it's very cool. It's put together much more professionally than I had expected, and has most of my favorite old school demos (like "Unreal" "Dope," and "Stars") as well as a bunch of newer ones I haven't seen yet (I do wish it included "Facts of Life" by Witan, but oh well).
Highly recommended! Watching it definitely makes me think a managed demo contest would be fun - I'm going to have to try to organize one for later this year.

Riding the storm out waitin' for the thaw out, etc. etc...
Wow, holy crap! My little piece rebutting Carlos Perez got picked up all over the web (first by Chris, then by ActiveWin, and this morning by osnews) and brought an unbelievable amount of traffic to this site (1200+ hits since midnight - I get ~200 on a typical day). Welcome everyone! The RSS subscribe button is to your left, please feel free to wander around.
Update: This blog just moved into the #3 slot on the Radio Community Server rankings page. Unbelievable.

1st International Workshop on C# and .NET Technologies for Algorithms (in general), Computer Graphics, Visualization, Scientific, Distributed and WEB Computing
In other words, if you work with managed code at all you can probably speak at this conference (running in Plzen Feb 5-8). Looks like a grab-bag of presentations by people tinkering with managed code. These two talks look juicy to me:
- Distributed Shared Objects Runtime For The .NET Framework and Rotor
- MC# : An Asynchronous Parallel Programming Language for Cluster- and GRID-Architectures
Any readers planning to go? I had hoped to speak at this conference (I have a soft spot in my heart for Prague) but ultimately didn't turn in an abstract, mostly due to the usual reason. There's another Rotor conference in Pisa this April though. I do plan to speak at that one and think I even have a topic in mind.
