Sun readying J2EE 1.4
Saw an article on InfoWorld talking about Sun's preparing of J2EE v1.4. This seems like a big deal to me, as this will be the first post-.NET Java Release.
I'm still trying to understand why IBM doesn't buy Sun, take over Java, and slowly ease Sun's hardware division gently into that good night. (Gordon Weakliem put this idea in my head).

Microsoft opens source code to governments?
"To woo governments, Microsoft said it will make its source code available to government agencies over the Internet, provided they do not disclose that code. They will also be required to sign contracts, but will not have to pay for access." [Reuters]
I'm uh, head of my neighborhood association, does that count? The cynic in me says once this happens it's just a matter of time before you can download it from some warez site in Asia. I once heard that the NT build process took something like 19 hours on sophisticated hardware though (this was years ago), so somehow I doubt that it'll be as simple as dropping it in an nt_src directory and running nmake.
